The 2008 Splieth Regatta was over the weekend (23th - 24th August).
Friday: Started with the usual boat handovers and skippers brief, with some crew training in the förde followed by a Italian night in the Yacht Club
Saturday: The rain was falling like stair rods and the weather forecast was promising rain and not a lot of wind. After a couple of cans race in Heikendorfer Bucht in the downpour the fleet were off on a passage out into the förde and then back to the club. The evening meal at the club was curry.
Sunday: 0845 saw the skippers brief come and go, todays racing was to start in Heikendorfer Bucht again. The warm up round the cans followed by a passage race just off Wentdorf. A hearty plate of gulash with meatballs and salad was laid on in tentage by the shore party. There was no rain! A compass race was followed by a passage race with a finish off the jetty rounded the day off nicely. BBQ was the order of the night in the club.
Monday: Another 0845 brief and a quick trip to Heikendorf for the last of the racing where one short and one passage races cleaned up the racing programme.
The prizes were kindly presented by Frau Irena Teegen (Bruno Splieth’s daughter). Shepherds pie followed for lunch in the club. Boats were then cleaned up and handed back before the crews started thier journey home.
